What's In a Name?

As I was beginning to explore the possibility of starting a blog, I realized that one of the most important things to me is for my blog to have an good name.  It was then that I also realized I had a problem.

A couple weekends ago, Haley Nugent introduced me to her "baby pillow pet".  I was so impressed when she told me that her little cow's name was Moo-Bert.  Moo-Bert!  How adorable!  And how are you so creative?!  I would have named him Mr. Cow or something.  Actually he probably would have remained nameless just like the little buffalo who shares a bed with me.  Moo-Bert?!  As you can tell, I am still impressed, because my creativity when it comes to thinking of names is like zero.

Anyways, when I realized a cute name was important to me, I began talking with mom, asking her for ideas.  I told her I wanted it to be creative.  As a gift to you, I decided to share her suggestions that were indeed creative but that didn't quite make the cut:

Twirl Pants
Baby Ballerina
Chesbolina Strikes Again
& Chicken Nuggets

Clearly, her perception of me is indicated by her suggestions.  I haven't really decided how I feel about Chicken Nuggets and am still trying to understand the Twirl Pants idea.  Nevertheless, I am thankful for moms attempt to help me.

So, why "Dancing in the Rain"?  Yes, I do love to dance in the rain, but I think Jesus brought this name to mind because of the significance it has to what He has been speaking to me lately.

It all started in Psalm 63:1-2.

"God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You.
    I thirst for You;
    my body faints for You
in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.
So I gaze on You in the sanctuary
to see Your strength and Your glory
."

A land that is "dry, desolate, and without water."  Ever felt like that?  I have.  So then the Lord brought me to Psalm 68:7-9:

"God, when You went out before Your people,
when You marched through the desert,
the earth trembled, and the skies poured down rain
before God, the God of Sinai,
before God, the God of Israel.
   You, God, showered abundant rain;
   You revived Your inheritance
   when it languished."

Wow!   A God who goes out into the desert before His people and showers down abundant rain?  A God who revives His inheritance when it languishes?!  When we feel dry and desolate, we can know that our God has gone before us and has promised to send Living Waters to revive us!

So, whether we are dancing in the rain of His abundant goodness right now, or walking through a dry and desolate land, we can rejoice in the truth found in Hosea 6:3:

"Let us strive to know the LORD.
His appearance is as sure as the dawn.
He will come to us like the rain,
like the spring showers that water the land."

His appearance is as sure as the dawn.
He will come.
Dance in the rain.

  1. Thanks for this Ches--this word really blessed me tonight. Goes along with the song "You'll Come" by Hillsong Chapel that God's really been using to minister to me this week.

I love you! Thanks for sharing your heart...

First,I am so glad you started a blog.

Second, I am so glad you didn't name it "twirl pants." Seriously I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read that.

Third, the Scripture and what the Lord is showing you was such a blessing to read. I look forward to many more posts!
